Summary
Code2College is an Austin-area nonprofit focused on a mission of dramatically increasing the number of minority and low-income high school students who enter and excel in STEM undergraduate majors and careers. Through implementation of a program model that leverages volunteers from the local Tech ecosystem, Code2College delivers over 100 hours of after-school web development and coding instruction, mentorship and STEM industry exposure to Central Texas high school students.
Code2College will serve over 700 students this coming Fall and is actively recruiting new volunteer instructors: this could be YOU! We have two curricula that from which we deliver our programming: the Web Development Leadership Program and the Software Engineering Leadership Program. (Participating schools are noted)
The Web Development Leadership Program (WDLP) will teach students how to build a website using WordPress and some JavaScript. Classes are led by teams of 5 instructors per campus. Working in teams of 4-5, students will learn and apply skills to build a fully functional website for a local nonprofit or small business in Central Texas.

The Software Engineer Leadership Program (SELP), targets those students who have previous programming experience and are ready to be challenged further. Students in this program will have the opportunity to merge Civics and Technology. Classes are led by teams of 3-5 instructors per campus. Volunteers from the community and our corporate partners will work with students from the Code2College Curriculum to deepen their experience with JavaScript and Python. Students will work in teams of 4-5 to build a web application that addresses a civic problem statement (i.e. voter registration in central Texas, redlining, etc.). At the completion of the SELP, students will present their project during a February Demo Day in front of local Senior Technical leaders, as well as the opportunity to interview for paid summer internships with Code2College internship host partners.
