The mission of Code2College is to dramatically increase the number of minority and low-income high school students who enter and excel in STEM undergraduate majors and careers.
2.
Internships
Our belief is that through our approach to Education, Exposure and Experience, we can enhance student preparation for rigorous, technical careers and mitigate some of the key factors around STEM attrition.
3.
College Matriculation
In Fall 2016, Code2College launched its inaugural cohort with thirty students from two Austin ISD schools: the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders and Akins High School. Of the 30 students, 70% are girls and 90% are students of color.
Why WE Exist
Code2College provides access and opportunies in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) fields to students from underrepresented backgrounds in tech: girls, sudents of color and from low-income backgrounds. By equipping these students with both professional and technical skills, we endeavor to prepare them for a variety of in-demand, high paying technical careers. Underrepresented groups who initially declare a STEM field when entering college, exit those fields in droves (either by switching to a non-STEM major or dropping out of college altogether):
Over the course of a program year, students participate in after-school web development or coding sessions, monthly professional skills workshops and some students will have the opportunity to interview for paid, software engineering internships with leading firms like Indeed, RetailMeNot and Cloudera.
